As we take a couple of days off for a bit of mid-winter feasting, we thought we'd dive into the backend and see what our Top 10 stories of the year were as decided by you, our readers. We start in the Federation.
10. '765874 Unification': How William Shatner returns as Star Trek's Captain Kirk on Apple Vision Pro
Published: November 21
At 10, we kick off with Star Trek. Unification is notable for two main reasons. The first and most obvious one, is that it features the recreation and reunification (hence the title) of Star Trek's most famous characters. The second, is that it has been made with the Apple Vision Pro as its primary intended viewing experience.
9. The SJ20 Dual-Lens Action Camera is the world's first action cam to feature two lenses
Published: January 8
SJCAM’s $229 SJ20 Dual-Lens Action Camera tried a new dual-lens tactic to separate itself from its competition in an increasingly crowded field. ‘Conquer the Day, Rule the Night’ was the byline that SJCAM chose to launch its new dual-lens SJ20, reckoning that it can capture ‘crisp’ 4K footage regardless of lighting conditions. "If this does well for SJCAM, expect imitations to follow fairly quickly," we wrote. They haven't; draw your own conclusions.
8. Adobe previews new features for photographers
Published: December 20
Very much still in the charts because it's only a few days old, this one will probably land further up by the tine we actually get to 2025. With Lightroom having scooped a recent Apple App Award, Adobe has been talking about some of the new features it’s bringing to Lightroom and Photoshop aimed at photographers in 2025. But there are price changes too.
7. Nexus G1 Blackmagic box camera project creates controversy
Published: January 12
While this is the only story about the Nexus G1 to break into the Top 10, every time we've written about it this year it's attracted a lot of attention. This was the first though, and addressed some of the rumours circulating that the whole thing was just a scam to separate the unwary from their cash. It very much wasn't. While the camera won't be with us until Q2 next year, 2024 has proved that nothing could be further from the truth. Head here for the latest update.

4. Nikon to acquire RED in major camera shock
Published: March 7
How on earth they kept this a secret is anyone's guess. While we've missed Jarred Land's early hours shitposting as a way of announcing new products more than we would have thought possible, we're soon going to see the fruits of this acquisition come to market. Our detailed analysis that looked at all the implications of the deal hovered just outside the Top 10 this year, with this breaking news story racking up the views.
3. Long-term DJI Osmo Pocket 3 review. This is why it's so popular

This one is linked to the next one. Simon Wyndham has been using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 since it was first released over a year ago. How does it stack up over the long-term? Spoiler alert #1: it has its quirks but all in all it's pretty good. Spoiler alert #2: the Number 2 story on the list is no longer much of a surprise.
2. Who makes the current best-selling video camera?
Published: November 5
Our report on how BCN+R data shows that Chinese manufacturer DJI now completely dominates the market in Japan really gained traction worldwide. In fact, lump all of DJI's cameras in the top ten together and the company has over a third of the video camera market to itself. Which is an astonishing level of market dominance achieved in a very short space of time.
1: The Sonos ERA 300 speaker: now in stereo
Published: April 3
David Shapton liked the Sonos Era 300 speaker so much, he bought two of them. And our readers liked the second of his reviews about them as a newfangled stereo pair so much, that almost exactly twice the number of people read it. And if that sounds like we're making it up, we're really not. 2x Sonos speakers = 2x the readers. If the company can recover from its recent app-related doldrums long enough to release a quad system, we'll be happy to see if the numbers hold.
