Wooden Camera has unveiled a new Elite Accessory System for the upcoming Canon EOS C400 cinema camera. Set to ship in September alongside the camera's release, this modular system aims to enhance the C400's versatility for various production environments.
Modern problems need modular solutions
As cinema cameras become more compact and versatile, the demand for flexible rigging solutions has increased. Wooden Camera's latest accessory system for the Canon C400 reflects this trend, offering compatibility with its own, Canon, and third-party accessories.
Dominick Aiello, Senior Director of Accessories at Creative Solutions, explained: "We developed an adaptive, modular system that lets users quickly build out their setup with their preferred accessories."
True to Dominick’s word, the modular system is front and center on the listed features, including:
- The Battery Slide Pro
- Available in Gold Mount or V-Mount and attaches directly to the camera without rods.
- Provides power through a 4-pin XLR connector and allows hot-swapping of batteries.
- The Base Plate System
- Features an optically centered design with an ARCA riser plate and an ARCA base plate.
- Integrates with industry-standard LWS 15mm rods, allowing users to adapt their existing gear to the new camera.
- Top Plate System
- The three-piece design adds multiple ⅜"-16 and ¼"-20 mounting points.
- Optional Dual Rod Bracket enables rod-based mounting, catering to more complex rigging needs.
- Top Handle Cheese Plate
- Conforms to the EOS C400 handle, adding accessory points while maintaining access to the camera's hot shoe.
- NATO Side Rail
- Adds mounting points without interfering with the camera's handle.
- Features Wooden Camera's patented safety push pins.
- Bolt-On Canon EVF Adaptor
- Provides secure attachment options.

Changing gear(s)
At Cine Gear in June, Wooden Camera revealed Elite Accessory Systems for the Sony BURANO and VENICE2 cine cameras, which garnered positive feedback.

As cameras like the C400 continue to blur the lines between cinema and broadcast applications, modular-based solutions will continue to grow in popularity. It almost feels like the difference between using a prime or a zoom lens. Niche specialism vs. on-the-fly adaptability. Both have their benefits.
