The Hydra Alien Mini is a compact shock-absorbing arm compatible with smaller camera systems that can be car-mounted or handheld.
Given the reputation of its Hydra Arm, reimagining that as something smaller, lighter, and crucially cheaper, is a decent bet on Tilta’s behalf. The Hydra Alien Mini is a compact shock-absorbing arm compatible with smaller camera systems such as the DJI Action 3/4, DJI Pocket 3, Insta360 X4/X3, and any other system that weighs up to a limit of 600 grams (1.32lbs). That includes Smartphones with Tilta’s Khronos Ecosystem.
The Hydraulic Damping System utilizes automotive-grade oil imported from the US for track-level performance and the arm has been designed for it to be easy for users to add additional oil when needed.
Included with the kit is an extender arm which is adjustable on both axes, allowing users to better position the arm for various configurations and vehicle placements.
It’s not just all about car mounting either. Depending on what kit you buy, also included is a handle which can be used when running the arm handheld. An optional Electronic Suction Cup features Tilta’s clever battery powered suction device that has the ability to monitor real time pressure and automatically increases suction in the event of a leak.
Featuring a built-in 2000mAh battery, it can run for over 14 hours continuously under normal conditions. The battery also supports a 5V/1A USB-C external power supply input, allowing for even longer uninterrupted shooting via additional power sources.
Net weight of the whole thing is 982.5 grams (2.17 lbs), with the arm itself weighing 372 grams (0.82 lbs). Dimensions are 181 x 37.4 x 70.5 mm (7.13 x 1.47 x 2.77 inches).
If you’re mounting it on a car, Tilta reckons you’re good for up to around 60 mph (100 kph).
