Shipping next month, the new Steadicam Axis looks to replicate the stability of a full high-end system in what is a comparatively small rig. It’s a 3-Axis electronically assisted camera stabilizer incorporating Tiffen’s patented Steadicam Volt technology, augmented with a third pan motor for what the company promises is even more precise camera control.

Why the importance of 3-axis assisted stabilization? Tiffen says it allows the operator to directly control the framing of the shot without feeling disconnected from the camera like in other fly by wire systems.

It promises a shallow learning curve for achieving high quality camera movement, with faster set up times and greater range of movement over current electronic gimbal systems.

When paired with a Steadicam A-30 Arm & Vest, the Steadicam Axis reaches a payload capacity of up to 20 lbs (9 kg). Pricing is $8995 and, as mentioned, it should start shipping in August.

What’s included:

  • Steadicam Axis Sled with 3-Axis Volt System and Monitor
  • Steadicam A-30 Arm
  • Steadicam A-30 Vest
  • Docking Bracket
