The Panasonic S5 has been announced, and although it has been the subject of rumour for a while now, the company has now confirmed its existence.

The official press release doesn’t tell us much more than that the camera exists and that it will be released later this year, but that doesn’t stop the rumour mill.
The Panasonic S5, or DC-S5 to give it its full designation, if we’re totally honest, is not exactly one of the best kept secrets in the camera industry. Information about its existence has been leaking for a few months, and earlier this month an apparently full spec sheet was also leaked onto the internet.
Where does the Panasonic S5 sit?
If you read the rumours and the leaks the new camera is everything from an S1 successor to a budget model and everything in between. The image above has also been cleverly crafted so as not to give the game away.
Panasonic has neither confirmed nor denied any of the leaked specifications, but what it has done is confirm that the camera does in fact exist. This will no doubt send the internet into a frenzy with discussions about how this will affect the existing S series line of cameras.
How it does or whether it does is merely conjecture at this point in time. However it is another addition to a line of cameras that no doubt uses the L Mount lens system. If this is the case it will further cement the L Mount as a usefully growing system.
Apart from this we are left with more questions than answers, but it won’t be long until Panasonic fills in all the details. The camera will be fully unveiled at an online launch event on Weds 2nd September at 15:00 BST. Until then enjoy the ensuing discussion and we will bring you much more information just as soon as we are able.
