We’ve had several year end summaries of best selling kit from various places round the world, with one of them becoming one of our most read features of 2024. All of them tend to provide at least some interesting insight into how the market is evolving in their own particular areas, and this latest one is one of the more consequential ones. A) It’s from Japan, the home market of most of the leading companies in the industry and b) it’s from Tokyo-based Map Camera, Japan’s largest camera shop and one of the largest specialist retailers in the country which celebrated it’s 30th anniversary in 2024.
As spotted on Sony Alpha Rumours, here’s the list of the most sold cameras in 2024.
- Fujifilm X-100VI
- Fujifilm X-T50
- Sony A7cII
- Nikon Z f
- Fujifilm X-T5
- Nikon Z6III
- Sony a7IV
- Canon EOS-R6II
- Canon EOS-R5II
- Nikon Z8
The throttling of supply of the Fujifilm X-100VI hasn’t affected its position at the top, which is perhaps inevitable given the sheer demand that is leading to the shortage of the $1599 unit in the first place. Definitely a good a year for Fujifilm, with three of the top 5 positions.
It’s not always about price either. Nikon’s Z8 topped the charts last year despite its $3999 price tag, and still holds on to the top 10 one place behind the most expensive camera on the list, Canon’s $4299 EOS-R5II. A slightly worse return for Sony. The $2499 a7IV does well to remain in the charts for a third year running, but it lost one camera slot compared to last year. Panasonic didn’t even make the charts.
The top three best-selling used cameras this year were the Sony a7 III, Nikon Zf, and the original Canon EOS R5.
On the lens side of things, a strong performance from Tamron is noticeable. Here’s Map's Top 10 most sold lenses in 2024:

- Tamron 28-200mm III
- Sony 24-70mm GM II
- Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2
- Fujifilm 16-50mm
- Nikon Z 28-400mm
- Canon 100-400mm IS USM
- Nikon Z 180-600mm
- Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM
- Sony 70-200mm GM II
