A fair amount of new kit from Teradek at NAB aimed at live production including two new Ranger models.
Teradek has several new technologies and products for broadcast, live production, and more coming up in Vegas. The headlines are:
Headlines are grabbed by the Ranger Mk II. Teradek’s zero-delay (ie. <1ms) wireless video solution for live production and broadcast is getting a major upgrade for NAB with the introduction of 12 new 6 GHz (U-NII 5) channels and two newly designed form factors to suit cameras of any size; the Micro version being designed for prosumer cameras, gimbals, drones, and so on, while the mainstream unit is the more typical camera-back model. U-NII 5 support for both allows production companies and broadcasters to operate on wireless spectrum that is practically unused by most other electronics, providing interference-free operation just about anywhere. The upgraded wireless radios bring Ranger’s already impressive frequency support over licensed and unlicensed bands to a new level, from 4.9 GHz all the way up to 6.425 GHz.
Meanwhile, and launched earlier this year, Prism Mobile is billed as the lowest SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) bonded network field encoder of its kind, packing dual internal cellular modems and 4K HDR video support, and seamlessly slipping onto any professional camera rig for quick, on-the-go video contribution.
At NAB, Prism Mobile, along with the rest of the Prism Series, is also announcing integration with C3 Portal, Sony’s next-generation camera-to-cloud gateway service designed for professional news-gathering and file-based production, all of which should enable fairly seamless fast and secure content delivery from the field to any location.
Elswehere, Teradek Data is the company’s new cellular data plan service for broadcasters and content creators. Billed as more than just a SIM card, Teradek promises no throttling, no data caps, and full compatibility with carriers worldwide. Data also provides Tier 1 support for premium bandwidth priority in North America.
According to the company, Teradek Data works on a shared data system; in other words you have one data bucket that all of the SIMs on your account share. Buckets last 12 months and can be stacked. As to pricing, all we have so far is “For a full list of plan pricing, please contact sales.”
Finally, Bridge allows users to remotely operate VISCA, ONVIF, Dante AV-H, or NDI|HX PTZ cameras from anywhere in the world, while with Bridge Duo, they can pass video, audio, and control data over 2 built-in high performance LTE modems, giving reliable transport and total control over even the most isolated PTZs. For more mundane studio use, Bridge is also available as an Ethernet-only option.
