Everybody needs a slider, and the SliderMini2 from Smartta follows on from its original highly successful SliderMini rig.
The SliderMini started life, as many products do nowadays, as a crowd funded Indiegogo project. Unlike the majority of crowdfunded projects the SliderMini went on to win design awards and become a bonafide finished product.
Designed for mobile devices and DSLRs, its USP is that it is both highly compact and very easy to use. But now the company has revised and improved the design and has now announced the SliderMini2.
The new version features some substantial improvements over the original including,
- Unibody design
- More powerful motor enabling it to handle camera loads up to 15kg for horizontal operation, and a
- 25% increase in load capacity for vertical operation.
- 20% power saving compared to the original giving up to 52 hours of normal use or 14 hours of active use. The device can still be used while charging.
- Dual control by either the mobile app or a single button on the device itself.
- 10 time-lapse modes built in.
- One tap stop motion
- Loop mode for interview use.
- Curve mode, allowing variable speed movements
- Stay mode to keep the slide still while shooting time-lapse or stop motion videos.
We know that sliders can sometimes be overused, and perhaps their use has become overshadowed by the prevalence of gimbals. However motion controlled sliders like this are great tools for being able to create very slow, repeatable subtle movements. The highly compact size and light weight (only half a kilogram) means that it is highly portable, and will easily fit into a lightweight bag for shooting on the move. We look forward to being able to test the SliderMini2 very soon.
The Smartta SliderMini2 is available for pre-order with 20% for $319 (usually $399) with a free ball head. Find out more on the Smartta website.
