Recently, in our fall lens roundup, we told you about the prototype 28-45mm T2.0 AF Cine Zoom lens Sigma will be showcasing at IBC 2024, and the company has now confirmed some more details.

Sigma has shed some additional light on the prototype 28-45mm AF Cine Zoom lens, and also corrected the fastest speed of the aperture: It’s T2.0 and not T1.8, as originally speculated.

It is designed based on a very similar lens, the Sigma 28-45mm T1.8 DG DN | Art lens. Hence, the original thought the prototype would also be T1.8. Made for full-frame mirrorless cameras it features a T2.0-T16 aperture, and 11 rounded diaphragm blades.

This is Sigma's first ever cinema lens with AF, and the redesign has been done with video sensibilities in mind. It now includes a focus ring with distance indicator, a click-free aperture ring, and compatibility with Φ95mm matte boxes.

It has an impressive 0.3 m minimum focusing distance (0.98’), and a 1:4 magnification ratio (at f=45). Size-wise it has a 95mm (3.8”) front diameter and 86mm (3.39") filter size and weighs 1250 g / 44.1 oz.

It comes in two initial versions, L-Mount and Sony E-Mount, that are 151.8mm / 6 in and 153.8mm / 6.1 in long respectively.

Pricing and a release date have not been revealed yet, but the Art version came out in June 2024 and retails for $1349. At IBC, Sigma is still calling it a prototype, even though it looks pretty production ready to our eyes.
