The Stand-up Maths team decided to investigate film formats by shooting their YouTube video specifically on 35mm, which required them to thank their Patreons *a lot*.
There is something wonderfully quixotic about this video: a quick investigation into film formats that is shot on 35mm (mostly) with the occasional bit of Super 16 thrown in too.
Anyone that has worked with the stuff or knows even a little bit about shooting video won't find much new here; this is not a deep technical dive. But it is done in a highly engaging way and is even useful in a 'How it works?' sort of way. Anyone who has experienced the squirming awfulness of having to explain rotary dial telephones or vinyl records and why you sometimes placed a coin on the back of the needle to a younger generation will appreciate being able to point to this and say 'Come back to me in 20 minutes'.
And there's a very telling point near the start where they count how far $10 of Patreon funds has got the production in terms of film and processing costs. Five seconds. And the whole thing is 22:26 minutes long. That works out at about $2700. No wonder they think they can claim it is the first 35mm film made specifically for YouTube (unless, dear reader, you know differently).
