One of Android’s flagship phones, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series adds new photo and video capabilities amongst the usual AI guff.

Yada yada yada, AI, yada yada yada.

Moving on swiftly to the interesting stuff, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the main news here with the addition of a new 50MP F1.9 FOV 120˚   ultrawide camera sensor, a significant upgrade from the previous 12MP. Sadly that hasn’t been overhauled across the range, meaning you will have to pay a starting price of $1299 to get hold of it in the Ultra.

What is new across the range, and thus includes the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, is log recording in all modes via Galaxy Log. 10-bit HDR recording is also now applied by default, with Samsung saying Galaxy S25 can thus capture details in any lighting conditions as a result. The company also says that low-light videos have never been clearer than before thanks to its powerful customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy (to give it its full name) chipset. This analyses movement and time to reduce noise more effectively, detecting both moving and static objects in realtime with greater precision, and resulting in sharper, cleaner footage.

Performance has been boosted all round and Samsung claims it is the most powerful chipset ever on Galaxy S Series, delivering a performance boost of 40% in NPU, 37% in CPU, and 30% in GPU compared to the previous generation.

It’s also beaten Apple to the punch of offering a DSLR-like experience on mobile, introducing depth-of-field control with Virtual Aperture, integrated into the popular Expert RAW additional download. It is, of course, not the physical system rumoured to be coming to future Apple phones, but it will be nice to have it if it works as advertised.

Galaxy S25 also introduces a range of AI powered tools. Audio Eraser simplifies the removal of unwanted noise in videos. By isolating categories of sounds – including voices, crowds, music, wind, nature and noise – users can control what to tone down or eliminate entirely. Portrait Studio has also been enhanced, allowing users to create personalised avatars with more true-to-life facial expressions. Filters introduces new analogue-style filters, delivering a 'film-like aesthetic' for photos and videos.

Pre orders are open as of now and pricing starts at $799 for the Galaxy S25, $999 for the Galaxy S25+, and as mentioned before, $1299 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Different storage options are available across the range, with the S25 offering 128 and 256 GB options, the Galaxy S25+ ramping that up to 256 and 512 GB, and the S25 Ultra topping out at an additional 1TB.
