RØDE goes all sibilant alliteration by saying that its new Wireless Micro is the smallest, simplest and sleekest wireless microphone it has yet produced.
Available in both black and white, and with versions for either USB-C or Lightning devices, the new Wireless Micro receiver connects directly to a phone with no need for cables. It features two ultra-compact, ultra-lightweight transmitters with integrated clips and magnetic attachments that should be easy to mount on a subject while remaining discreet on camera.
The built-in microphones are housed in acoustic chambers with a patent-pending design, purpose-built to capture clear and intelligible audio via an omnidirectional pickup pattern while mitigating wind noise. This is all aided by intelligent GainAssist technology which automatically controls volume levels on-the-fly to deliver balanced audio in a range of conditions. A sleek charging case is pocket-sized and delivers two full recharges for up to 21 hours of battery life, all while keeping the system safe and secure.
The transmitters weigh a mere 12 grams (0.42 oz) without magnet, 18 grams (0.63 oz) with, and measure just 40 x 20 x 17 mm (1.57 x 0.79 x 0.67 in). Pre-orders are open now for an expected ship date of mid-December. Pricing is $149 or equivalent.
