The new RED Komodo Monochrome is available now on a short run, made to order basis for $7500.
According to Jarred land's Instagram, there's a new Komodo available with immediate effect. From the man himself:
"Finally made some Komodo Monochrome sensor wafers, dropping them into bodies now. Camera specs the same as normal Komodo except about twice the sensitivity from removing the color filters. Let Clark or I know if you want one, made to order so take about a week or two to get after order. $7500."
That's about a jump of around $1500 over the price of the regular Komodo 6K camera, but twice the sensitivity seems worthy of the extra outlay. No idea how many of the new cameras are going to be available, but the operative word in all that is probably 'some', so if you fancy one you should probably move fairly fast.
And while perusing the rest of his feed for snippets we might have missed, we came across mention of the new GDU / MUTINY HVT (High-Value Target) AirTag Camera Body Cap. This is a neat idea; for $45 (AirTag not included) you get a body cap that you can slip an Apple AirTag inside, letting you track an errant camera body that is not in your possession via theft or accident across a decent proportion of the globe.
It's not a RED exclusive by any means and is thus available in RF, PL, E, and EF-mount varieties. And while slightly reminding us of the tin of canned food to stick a money roll inside or the odd shaped rock for the spare front door key (otherwise known as Lessons 1 & 2 in Thieves School), anything that helps you know where your stuff is is good by us.
Props to Matthew on Newsshooter for turning the Komodo up first.
