Now *this* is what we call Action Cam footage, taken by ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet during a spacewalk on the International Space Station on Friday, March 24.
Having said that, it's not the most exciting Action Cam footage we've ever seen. According to NASA, the primary task of the spacewalk was to prepare the Pressurized Mating Adapter-3 (PMA-3) for installation of the second International Docking Adapter, which will accommodate commercial crew vehicle dockings. But once the Earth below comes into view rotating beneath the astronauts as the ISS orbits the planet, that primary task is a slightly secondary consideration. The work may be dull but the setting is extraordinary.
It's also a testament to the housing that the camera is kept in that it can withstand the extreme temperature differentials from nightside to dayside of the ISS' orbit; something in the order of 250ºC. Time for a new extreme range of camera housings?
