Panasonic provides big camera updates

According to Panasonic, its latest update to the GH4 and YAGHE camera firmware is not only to improve compatibility of the two AG models with the Atomos Shogun recorder which records UHD via HDMI at 10-bit 4:2:2, but it also lets the two units output 25p and 30p while filming in Full HD.

Previously the cameras only outputted 50p / 60p, which has proved problematic working with many of the products in the same part of the market that they were aimed at, including Teradek Cubes and cheaper monitors.

Here’s the list of improvements (the first two in each case applying when the cameras are linked to Atomos units).

AG-GH4 Ver 2.1

Timecode can be embedded to the HDMI output signal.

RSS (Recording Start/Stop) signal can be embedded to the HDMI output signal.

FHD at 30p/25p native output via HDMI is available while recording video in FHD at 30p/25p.

Playback performance of recorded 4K video is improved.

[Time Lapse Shot] Program is fixed to start recording at the designated time even when [summer time] is set.
