Game of Thrones just set the TV VFX bar even higher [video]

1 minute read

HBONotice how we didn't;t give much of anything away with this picture? It's a different story below...

Yes, yes, we know you've heard this before, but Game of Thrones has set the bar for TV VFX up yet another notch with the climactic sequence of the end of S07E04, 'The Spoils of War'. Some pretty major spoilers after the break: you have been warned

As joint showrunner D.B.Weiss puts it: "What if somebody had a F-16 that they brought to a medieval battle."

Well, as anyone who has been watching the show knows, Danerys Targaryen has three of them...

The sequence is called 'The Loot Train Attack' and it's probably the most bravura sequence that the show has mounted yet: a bit like 'The Battle of the Bastards' but with a socking great dragon in the middle of it.

Four cameras, three tracking vehicles, spider-cam, flying flamethrowers, flycam, a world record number of people set alight (73, including 20 at one time)...the 14-minute video below is a fascinating glimpse into orchestrating such a major set-piece.

Now follow that...
