Another week and another ProResRAW announcement! This time the LUMIX S5 officially gets 5.9K ProRes RAW via the Atomos Ninja V.
Atomos has updated its AtomOS software to 10.55, enabling the Panasonic LUMIX S5 to film full-frame 5.9K recording with its Ninja V. The company has been on fire lately, providing updates to its AtomOS software to enable ProRes RAW recording for a variety of cameras via their monitor recorders.
The LUMIX S5 features a 24.2 megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor (image stabilized), plus Dual Native ISO technology, making it a popular camera for filmmakers, video professionals, and photographers alike. And paired up with the Atomos Ninja V to enable ProRes RAW recording, there is a lot more flexibility while filming and in post.
The Ninja V has a daylight-viewable 5-inch 1000nit brightness HDR screen, and cinematographers can view the HDR RAW footage without a problem, with it set to HLG or PQ (HD10) formats.
There's also the option to use anamorphic lenses with the LUMIX S5 while filming in 3.5K Super35 Anamorphic 4:3 RAW mode, giving a very cinematic quality to footage. The resolution will be at 3536 x 2656.
Atomos continues to provide AtomOS software updates to allow ProRes RAW recording with many popular and new cameras. Most recently, we've seen the Sony FX6 receive DCI 4Kp60 ProRes RAW recording with the Atomos Shogun 7 and the Nikon Z 6II getting N-Log and 4Kp60 via the Ninja V.
The Panasonic LUMIX S5 price starts at around $2,000 USD, while the Ninja V costs $595 USD. For under $3,000, video and film professionals can get up to 5.9K ProRes RAW footage (not including lens costs).
