The new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 debuts next month for $599

Nikon's latest NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 lens balances wide-angle flexibility with f/1.4 speed to make a lens that can handle a lot of different situations at an affordable price.

The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 is the first Nikon Z lens to boast an f/1.4 aperture, which is going to allow photographers some real flexibility when shooting with available light.

The lens only weighs 0.9 lb / 415 g and at 2.9 x 3.5" / 74.5 x 88.5 mm is a compact unit that has also been balanced along its axis to help with easy use in gimbals and cages. Its optical construction features 11 elements in 9 groups and a 9-blade diaphragm helps ensure some rather lovely bokeh.

Focus breathing is suppressed and linear focusing can be enabled for controlled, accurate manual focus pulling, though Nikon also points out that driven by its fast and precise multi-focusing system, autofocus is smooth and steady.

0.27m / 10.6" close focusing provides a lot of flexibility when it comes to meeting the full range of a shot list. A clickless control ring can be customised to quietly adjust the aperture, ISO, exposure compensation and more during recording.  All moving parts of the lens barrel have been sealed to make it at least drip and dust resistant to some degree.

The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 will ship in mid July for around $599.
