Nikon's new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S lens features advanced optics, precise autofocus, and robust build quality for what the company says is stunning photography in any light.
The new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S is a classic 35mm focal length, and that f/1.2 aperture should allow photographers to control the depth of field in any light; even the tiniest details can be brought into sharp focus, and the background can be beautifully blurred.
The 11-blade rounded aperture and an advanced optical design should create a round and soft blur that’s free from any fringing. The lens has 17 elements in 15 groups, and special ED and SR lens elements work together to eliminate light dispersion and prevent colour fringing, distortion, and aberrations.
Anti-reflective coatings promise to virtually eliminate flare and ghosting, even in challenging backlit locations. Focus breathing is suppressed, and linear focusing can be enabled for controlled manual focus pulling.
The autofocus system is billed as incredibly fast and precise, even when working with a shallow depth of field. Dual stepping motors make swift continuous adjustments to keep the point of focus sharp. Two L-fn buttons are ideally placed for horizontal and vertical shooting, and the large, knurled focus ring acts smoothly. The control ring is fully customizable, so users can tailor it to their needs.
It’s tough too. It’s sealed at the barrel joints and buttons, and a rubber gasket prevents dust, dirt, or moisture from getting inside.
Lastly, it accepts the same wide range of 82 mm screw-on filters as both the 50mm and the 85mm f/1.2 S-Line lenses. Physical characteristics are 90x150 mm (3.5 x 5.9 in) and 1060 grams (2.34 lbs)
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S lens will be available in late February 2025 for $2799 or equivalent.
