Sometimes you just have to see something in action to appreciate how powerful it is, and this demo of the new tools in Premiere Pro shot on the NAB show floor does precisely that.

We've all been there in one form or another. You remember seeing a shot somewhere in the hours and hours of rushes, but you didn't think much of it at the time and it's only now that you come to finish the project that you realise that it was the perfect shot to underscore one particular scene. Doh!

This is what Adobe's new Media Intelligence in Premiere Pro is for and this, according to the company's Senior Product Marketing Manager for Video, Jason Druss, in a demo shot on the show floor out at NAB, is what it can do.

"So, we have this documentary programme that we made about this really wonderful restaurant, and I'm looking for a B-roll shot of cacao, because this woman right here is talking about how they grind their own cacao beans," he says. "So, I'm going to search my open project in the new search panel, and I'm going to simply type in cacao, and just like that, you can see we have all of the instances where cacao shows up in our timeline. And in addition to the new visual category searching, we also have cacao in transcription and metadata. So you're searching for visual tagging, transcription and metadata all at the same time in this new search panel."

Which is all rather cool. But wait, there's more.

"But that's cacao. That's one word. That's easy. Let's give it a little bit of a challenge. We were saying that Media Intelligence in the search panel allows you to find your clips by describing them. I can simply talk to it like a person, and I can say, "find me a steaming plate of food." If we go into all visuals here, we can see, here's all of our steaming food, right here. And the best part is, when I click on a clip, it'll actually automatically set the in and out points for you."

Have a look in the video below. We like this a lot.

Druss also runs through Caption Translation and how Premiere Pro can now translate captions into 27 languages, and finishes up on new color management tools. Premiere Pro 25.2 introduces automatic transformation of log and raw media to REC 709 or HDR without LUTs.

"We're supporting Apple log, ARRI, Canon, DJI, Fujifilm, Leica, Nikon, Panasonic, RED, and Sony," he says. "We're making it super simple and efficient for any video editor to have control and confidence over their colour management pipeline."
