The first wave of significant CES 2025 stories is upon us with Asus, LG, and Samsung among those with significant new monitors heading to the show.

A quick caveat before we start. Where possible we always add price and availability information to any stories about new products. At shows like CES a lot of the time that isn’t possible as manufacturers like to play their cards close to their chests.

ASUS

We’ll start with ASUS’ new ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM. This is a 26.5-inch 4K gaming monitor with an impressive 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time. It features the latest fourth-generation QD-OLED technology for improved image quality and a longer lifespan. It includes Display Port 2.1a (UHBR20) with full 80Gbps bandwidth, Dolby Vision support, VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black compliance, and will display 99% DCI-P3 gamut. 10-bit color, and Delta E < 2 color difference provides ‘astonishing’ HDR performance, ASUS saying that makes it a monitor perfect for photo and video editing as well as gaming.

ASUS has not one but two separate events at the show, so we’re expecting to hear a lot more from them once things kick off in earnest.

Samsung

Samsung has a very similar model, the 27-inch Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF), likely because it makes the fourth-generation QD-OLED screen used in the ROG display and for other companies such as MSI. This gives users plenty of choice in the market. It’s also introducing the 27-inch OLED G60SF, a QHD (2560 x 1440) screen with a frankly insane 500Hz refresh rate.

Samsung is also showcasing the 27-inch Odyssey 3D (G90XF model) gaming monitor. This has a lenticular lens attached to the front of the panel and also uses a front stereo camera to provide a customizable 3D experience without the need for separate 3D glasses. It can also add a new depth to content by using AI to analyze and convert 2D video into 3D. Glasses-free 3D has been an industry holy grail for a few decades now and, after this machine was teased last year, it will be interesting to see what people make of it in the flesh.

Samsung Odyssey 3D

Of interest to post will be the TÜV-certified 37-inch ViewFinity S8 (S80UD), which the company bills as its largest 16:9 4K monitor to date. Its screen is approximately 34% larger than the previous model and features a sRGB 99% color gamut. It’s also levered a bunch (technical term) of AI features into its Smart Monitor series. The 32-inch 4K Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF) introduces AI Picture Optimizer which analyses the inputs, determines the type of content even down to the genre of game, and adjusts the display settings to suit. 4K AI Upscaling Pro, meanwhile, does exactly what you would expect uses advanced AI processing and neural networks to upgrade lower-resolution content up to 4K quality as long as it's being viewed via the built-in Smart TV apps.

LG

LG’s new offerings are curved and sizes are massive. The 45GX990A and 45GX950A are both 45-inch, 21:9 gaming monitors featuring ultra-high 5K2K resolution (5120 x 2160), which the company claims as a first for OLED monitors.

Both feature LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode. This offers customizable aspect ratios (21:9 or 16:9) and picture sizes (39-, 34- or 27-inches) with one-touch switching between preset screen-resolution and refresh-rate combos. All in all that provides eight configurations, allowing users to adapt to different game genres and field different setups depending on whether they’re running FPS, RPG, MOBA, or racing simulators. Or, of course, editing or grading.

Headline feature though is the 45GX990A's bendable OLED display. Samsung says that it can smoothly transition from completely flat to a 900R curvature within seconds. The non-bendable 800R fixed version, the 45GX950A, will presumably be a bit cheaper, though the specs suggest it will still be expensive.

TL;DR

  • ASUS is introducing the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, a 26.5-inch 4K gaming monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time, and fourth-generation QD-OLED technology, ideal for photo and video editing as well as gaming.
  • Samsung has unveiled the 27-inch Odyssey OLED G8 and also showcased the 27-inch OLED G60SF with an impressive 500Hz refresh rate and the Odyssey 3D (G90XF) gaming monitor featuring a glasses-free 3D experience using AI technology.
  • The TÜV-certified 37-inch ViewFinity S8 marks Samsung's largest 16:9 4K monitor, combining a 99% sRGB color gamut with AI features in its Smart Monitor series, such as AI Picture Optimizer and 4K AI Upscaling Pro.
  • LG's offerings include the 45GX990A and 45GX950A, both 45-inch 5K2K gaming monitors featuring customizable aspect ratios and a unique bendable OLED display that transitions from flat to a 900R curvature, along with a non-bendable option.
