New camera power supply options from Sony

Sony has unveiled two new camera power supply solutions for Alpha series and Cinema Line cameras, the BC-ZD1 battery charger and the DC-C1 DC coupler.

The BC-ZD1 (above) is a high-speed charger for Sony’s NP-FZ100 batteries and can simultaneously charge two batteries in around 155 minutes. Equipped with an indicator lamp that shows the battery charging status in five stages, the charger also includes heat dissipation measures, as well as heat monitoring and control. Designed for ease of portability, the charger’s dimensions are: width 84.5 mm x height 29.2 mm x depth 70 mm, with a weight of around 149g (3.33 x 1.15 x 2.76 inches and 5.26 oz).

The DC-C1 DC coupler (above) meanwhile, supplies power directly to the camera body from an external power source. It is designed to deliver a stable power supply during long shoots or streaming by providing continuous, reliable power. It's aimed as cameras compatible with NP-FZ100 or NP-FW50 rechargeable battery packs using an external power source such as a USB PD (65 W or more) compatible AC adapter and USB cable with USB PD support (5 A).

To prevent accidental cable disconnection, the DC-C1 is equipped with a locking screw hole, or an anchor loop can be used to secure the cable to the USB port. A 1.6 metre (5.25 foot) cable connects the plug-in plate to the power supply assembly for flexible setup, and a power indicator lamp shows power supply status.

Approximate dimensions for the DC-C1 DC are: width 52mm x Height 70.6 mm x Depth 32.0 mm (2.05 x 2.78 x 1.26 inch).

The DC-C1 coupler will retail for around £130/€150 and the BC-ZD1 charger around 120£/€140, with both products available from mid-October.
