Following on from the Sirui L Mount announcement earlier this week, MTF Services is now adapting the lens for use on the RED Komodo.
Anamorphic shooting is more popular than ever. Traditionally anamorphic lenses were big, heavy, expensive affairs, but now they can be used on anything from mobile phones to compact MFT cameras. The Sirui series of lenses are in fact designed for MFT mounting, and are so compact that they can be used on a light weight handheld configured camera.
Sirui anamorphic lens camera compatibility
The latest adaption of these lenses by MTF Services enables users of RF mount cameras like the RED Komodo, Canon C70, and EOS R series to use the lenses and produce 2.4:1 cinemascope images.
MTF Services will convert the lenses for you, although they are also now available in pre-converted form via MTF Services dealers. The conversion allows the lens to fully cover the image circle of the RED Komodo sensor, which means full blown 6K anamorphic footage. Other cameras such as the EOS R5 will have to accept a element of compromise since the lenses cannot be made to cover the full sensor. The work around suggested is to shoot in full frame mode and then do a 1.35x crop in post to eliminate the vignette.
The RF converted Sirui 50mm f/1.8 anamorphic lens costs £499 plus VAT for the base lens, and then £150 plus VAT for the conversion. Meanwhile the 35mm f/1.8 costs £637 plus VAT for the base lens and again £150 plus VAT for the conversion.
