Looking to play around with 35 mm but don't want to be sending your films off? The Lomo Daylight Developing Tank 35 mm is going to allow you to DIY it at home without needing a darkroom or even a changing bag.
The new Lomo Daylight Developing Tank 35 mm is an all-in-one film developing system designed for developing 35 mm film anywhere, anytime – with no darkroom or changing bag required.
It's a neat little system. The tank features what Lomography says is an intuitive spooling system, complete with a film-loading crank and film cutter, all of which streamlines the fiddliest part of film processing. The tank’s light-proof design, meanwhile, allows film to be loaded and developed in daylight. On top of all that, precision slots for easy liquid pouring and a waterproof, spill-proof lid ensure a clean, mess-free workspace.
Lomography is happy to make some boastful claims for the result, saying that you can load film in just one 'relaxed' minute, versus what it says would be at least five nerve-wracking minutes using a standard 35 mm reel inside a dark bag! It also says it is ideal for experiments: for film soup, push/pull processing, or other creative techniques.
The tank is suitable for both agitation and inversion development with the included metal buckle.
The Lomo Daylight Developing Tank 35 mm costs $79 and comes with the all-important 35 mm Developing Tank, 35 mm Film Reel, Film Retriever, Built-in Film Cutter. Of course, above and beyond that you will also need your chosen development chemicals, access to water, measuring containers, a timer, and chemical storage bottles. But for those that shoot a lot of film and want to push the creative boundaries on their own terms, all that may be a worthwhile investment.
