Lightworks has released a new public beta for version 2022.2, including full native ProRes support and built in quality control software.

Development on Lightworks continues apace with the new public beta release of version 2022.2. The new release contains a number of enhancements to make editing and finishing much more efficient.

First up is the inclusion of native ProRes file handling across all platforms. Lightworks has just been ProRes certified by Apple, making it official. The scope functionality has been improved, and there's now an ability to import LUTs for quick conversion, redesigned 10-bit editing, and, very interestingly, the world's first built in QC control built directly into the timeline.

LWKS also owns quality control software, Qscan, and it is this that powers the new quality control system within Lightworks itself. This means that it will be possible to automatically find issues pertaining to video levels, missing audio, blank frames, photosensitive epilepsy triggers, loudness levels, digital dropouts, and much more. We all know how irritating it is to discover silly problems with an edit after waiting an age for a render to take place, so this function will make those problems a thing of the past.

The Lightworks CEO, Pete Lambert, had this to say, "This new release is a step forward for Lightworks and helps to democratise the content creation workflow by removing the barriers to a truly professional editing workflow experience. This expanded toolset is yet another way Lightworks deals with advancements in technology so editors can stay focused on editing and creative storytelling."

The official release is due in a few weeks time, but those who want to try out the public beta can do so by downloading it from the LWKS website.
