An OOOM with a view. The new Laowa 14-60mm T2.9 MFT Cine and 20-85mm T4.0 S35 Cine expand the company's OOOM Cine Zoom series to three lenses.
Laowa has added a new pair of lenses to its OOOM Cine Zoom Series, as in, Out Of Our Minds (not kidding). The 14mm to 60mm T2.9 MFT Cine and a 20-85mm T4 S35 Cine (ARRI PL mount) join the previously released OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 Cine Zoom (released way back in April 2020).
Joining the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9 are the two new lenses, 14-60mm T2.9 MFT Cine and 20-85mm T4.0 S35 Cine. The features of both are very similar, except the mounts and only one has a back focus adjustment mechanism:
One thing that jumps out is the 20-85mm T4.0 Cine is kind of an odd man out, since it’s an ARRI PL mount. But you could argue so are the 14-60mm T2.9 MFT (Micro 4/3) and the 25-100mm T2.9, which has mounts for PL, EF, and E. It seems all three are for built for different cameras and mounts, although you could arguably buy some adapters.
Both the Laowa 14-60mm T2.9 MFT and 20-85mm T4.0 Cine are priced pretty well at $1999, making it affordable for the smaller production company or indie cinematographer looking for quality cine zoom lenses. The 25-100mm T2.9 can still be picked up starting at $3549 (and up to $7500 as part of a kit).
If you’re looking for affordable cine zoom lenses, these could be an option. But Laowa also has its Ranger S35 series of cine zooms, which has plenty of focal lengths available. In fact, Laowa has quite a few cine zoom and prime lens options; something to consider.
