Venus Optics has introduced a new affordable LAOWA wide angle lens for cinema cameras with Super 35 sensors.
It's a cine version of the LAOWA 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D standard lens. In addition, the company also introduced a full frame lens they're calling the 'widest rectilinear lens.'
For those with Super 35 sensor cinema cameras (APS-C), the LAOWA 9mm T/2.9 lens will be a great addition to their set of lenses. With mounts for Micro Four Thirds, FUJIFILM X, and Sony E, there is nearly something for everyone, depending on the camera.
Here are the highlights
Make no mistake, this is a truly wide angle prime lens, and many cinematographers may end up using it sparingly. But it'll be sharp, and the price of the LAOWA 9mm T/2.9 Cine Lens is an affordable $599, and will come with a customized Pelican case. It should debut this month (June 2020).
In addition, Venus Optics announced the LAOWA 9mm F/5.6, which is a very wide angle manual lens for full frame cameras. The mounts include Leica M - great for most mirrorless cameras via an adapter, Sony FE, and Nikon Z.
Other features include a 135-degree field of view, 12mm minimum focus distance, and a weight of just 12.34 ounces (350 g). It's extremely wide, but won't be fisheye lens wide. This lens pricing hasn't been solidified just yet, but will cost around $1000, and will debut this month (June 2020).
