Laowa has announced that four more focal lengths will be added to its forthcoming Proteus 2x anamorphic series which starts to ship in May.
On top of the already known 35mm, 45mm, 60mm and 85mm, the new focal lengths are 20mm, 28mm, 100mm and 135mm and all are on display at NAB for the first time. The company reckons that the 20mm will also be the widest 2X anamorphic lens ever designed for Super35+ sensors.
The series features a universal T2 aperture, delivers what the company says is excellent image quality and consistent classic anamorphic characteristics including elliptical bokeh. There flare options are available: blue, amber, and silver.
It supports close-up shots with a 55cm minimum focusing distance and offers "modern conveniences" to meet dynamic on-set needs.
PL mount by default, an interchangeable EF bayonet and hard case is included with each lens. Talking of which , the pricing is $4999 for one lens, $9499 for two, and $18,998 for four. We make that about $38k for all 8, though it's fully possible there may be some discount applied there.
The new additions are expected to be ready to ship in late 2023.
