Kelvin Play Hero coming in August & 4x brighter than Play Pro

Written by RedShark News Staff | Apr 10, 2025 6:00:00 AM

With four times the brightness of the award-winning Kelvin Play Pro, its successor the Kelvin Play Hero delivers 1000+ lux (@1m), which is rather impressive for a pocket light.

And pocket the Kelvin Play Hero is. The light weighs just 0.407 kg / 0.90 lbs and measures 5.7 x 7.7 x 2.5 cm / 6.2 x 3.0 x 1.0 in. In that space the Kelvin Cantastoria RGBACL Six-Color Light Engine delivers a rich, dynamic color palette via an expansive 106° beam angle, covering the full spectrum from 1700K to 20,000K CCT. The Norwegian company adds that high-end optics ensure precise beam shaping for perfect light control.

In terms of colour fidelity, the light claims high-end colour accuracy, meeting the TM30 Rf95+ /Rg100+ and CRI 97+ standards. It also has a TLCI 99 rating and a CQS 97 score. Furthermore, it supports various colour spaces, including Rec. 709, 2020, and DCI-P.

The unit features built-in wireless DMX (CRMX) from LumenRadio. Power comes via DC input (5V to 17V), or directly from a charger or a Li-Ion battery, while it also features an IP65 weatherproof design thanks in part to a durable, lightweight aluminum housing. The Kelvin Narrator App, meanwhile, allows users to control the light, access built-in lighting effects, presets and gels and create stunning custom sequences.

Pricing and availability

Pre-orders are open now and the light will ship in August 2025. Pricing is €299, and Kelvin is quick to highlight that it is made in Europe which currently looks like it will protect it from the worst of the tariffs to US customers... probably.
