Available in Q1 of 2025, iodyne's new portable SSD is available in 4TB and 8TB options, has some very strong security features, and also boasts a unique digital label.
With a revolutionary cooling system powered by dual AirJet modules that are self-cleaning and protected from particles as small as 0.3 micrometers, Pro Mini is claimed to be the world’s first portable SSD to break through the thermal throttling limit of previous portable SSD designs. Through this unique solid-state cooling design, iodyne claims Pro Mini delivers two to 10 times the sustained performance of typical Pro SSDs when running the most demanding workflows, with encryption and internal RAID protection turned on all the time.
Pro Mini also has a unique built-in Digital Label. This allows you to personalise and customise a label for your drive using a 2.1 inch E-paper display that retains your customised label image whether the drive is on or off, even if left disconnected for years.
The device has a bus-powered USB-C port that automatically detects the type of connection you’re using and its maximum speed, and adjusts accordingly. The drive further features a triple-anodised machined aluminium chassis which is scratch-resistant, and phone-quality hardened glass to protect the Digital Label. iodyne’s containers technology enables more advanced multi-platform workflows, by optionally dividing Pro Mini’s physical storage capacity into distinct logical containers, each formatted with a different filesystem type.
Inside of Pro Mini is a fully-integrated secure Bluetooth signalling beacon that can be linked with the Apple and Google device location tracking networks. You can use Find My to locate a particular drive in your inventory by flashing an LED or playing a sound. And if Pro Mini is lost or in transit with your project data, you can find it and track it using the native tracking apps on Apple or Google platforms. Pro Mini’s tracking capability is powered by an internal rechargeable battery, that automatically and intelligently recharges when needed.
Another novelty is that Pro Mini provides the industry’s first implementation of secure Passkeys for a portable storage drive. Just like a modern website, Pro Mini allows multiple authorised users to establish personal and secure Passkeys that are stored in their computer or phone’s Secure Enclave. Your Passkey is used to securely unlock Pro Mini when it connects to your computer.
The device is further secured with enterprise-grade XTS-AES-256 encryption, and protected with hardware-accelerated RAID-6 data protection. Encryption keys are stored in a hardware Secure Enclave, and locked by Passkeys, so that a lost or stolen device cannot reveal your private data, even if the drive is disassembled or plugged into a hacker’s computer.
Workflow metadata can be retrieved by iodyne’s iOS app through the NFC transponder, or viewed on a connected computer, and can be used to record times, dates, project codes, shipping locations, billing codes, and more. You can even connect Workflow Metadata with your own scripts and use it to drive automation in other tools.
Pro Mini undoubtedly represents a novel approach to mobile storage for truly mission-critical data. iodyne expects a price of about $1495 and $2195 to be typical for the US at most resellers.
Pre-orders are being handled exclusively by iodyne’s authorised resellers who are setting their prices based on geography and currency. A full list is available at iodyne.com/partners.
