Matrox Video is one of the companies that holds the industry together, and at NAB it showcased just how much development goes into making the products that bridge across the islands.

"The problem with standards is that everybody wants one," runs the old industry gag, which hits home because it's true. The result is an industry made up of multiple islands or siloes, which sometimes seem to have proliferated into an entire archipelago as we make the slow transition from SDI to IP workflows.

Matrox Video has been one of the companies building bridges between them and making sure that work can quite literally flow across standards and formats and new methods of working. It evolves this effort constantly as well, as technical marketing manager Dan Maloney illustrates with just one product in this booth tour shot in Vegas.

"We've been showcasing our Monarch Edge REMI encoders and decoders for a number of years now, and we're again continually improving it, adding contribution workflows to the device," he says. That means to all its REMI-oriented features - low-latency, 422 10-bit encoding, decoding, Tally, talk back, etc - it now has separate channels for ancillary data, insertions, HDR transports and more.

The result? "You get an ideal product for both contribution and REMI productions," says Maloney.

There's plenty more to see soon the video below.
