The already packed entry-level wireless mic market is about to become busier as Godox launches a new 2.4GHz wireless microphone system, Cube-C and Cube Combo.
Godox is, of course, primarily known for its well-regarded and ever-widening range of lights, but it’s a diverse company and makes plenty of other products in the production ecosystem as well. That means the $99 Cube-C isn’t the first but just the latest addition to the Godox Cube Mic series, and it looks to be a good one too, an ultra-compact system offering 24-bit audio quality, safety track backup, 40-hour battery life, and 300m stable transmission.
The company says the charging case has a redesigned storage layout that helps make its size almost 30% smaller than before, while still securely holding two mics and a receiver. The mics themselves are a compact 0.98”x0.96"x0.49" (24.9x24.4x12.5mm) and weigh only 0.25 oz (7 grams). They offer a range of wearing options, including a magnetic attachment, a back clip, and a necklace style, providing flexibility for different recording scenarios.
Performance is good too, with a 48kHz/24bit sampling rate, >70dB SNR, and a maximum 115dB SPL. Usefully, in addition to Mono/Stereo mode for flexible post-production, Cube-C provides a Safety Track mode, delivering a -6dB audio backup alongside the original track to protect your crisp, natural sound from clipping and distortion.
Dual-Mode Noise Reduction minimises unwanted ambient sounds from subtle room hums to bustling traffic noise for optimal recording quality. Engineered with a high-gain antenna to enhance RF resistance, Cube-C provides up to 300 metres (1000 ft.) transmission range. The transmitter also doubles as a remote controller, allowing you to activate your phone's camera shutter from up to 50m away via the app. The Cube-C receiver offers precision customization like mode switching, volume adjustment, and noise reduction at your fingertips. With UAC support, the system also delivers seamless, high-quality audio capture for desktop setups.
As well as the $99 base model (two transmitters, receiver, and charging case), the Cube-C Combo (above) adds an extra receiver. The idea is that one receiver is designed to connect to a camera, while the other connects to a smartphone, providing seamless integration for various recording setups. Price is $119 (or $129 with a USB-C cable), and pre-orders are open now.
