Generative Extend arrives in Premiere Pro 25.2

Jason Druss from the Premiere Pro team gave us a look at Adobe’s new Generative Extend feature live on the NAB 2025 show floor. It’s the first generative AI tool built directly into Premiere Pro, arriving with version 25.2.

The premise is straightforward. You’ve made a cut, but there’s not quite enough footage to cover the gap or transition. Generative Extend uses AI to generate new frames that blend almost seamlessly with the original, extending your footage. No reshoots, no timeline surgery.

“It’s very, very hard to discern where the generation stops and the actual video begins,” Jason said during the demo.

The tool works for all sorts of scenarios. From wide shots to handheld camera moves, it even picks up the motion of jib shots and focus pulls without missing a beat. In one example, a closing shot of riders moving into the sunset was extended by two seconds. You’d never have known it wasn’t all captured in-camera.

“This feature is so cool,” he added. “It just gives you that extra bit of breathing room you wish you'd had.”

Generative Extend is available now in Premiere Pro 25.2, with support for both 4K and vertical formats.
