We’ve written a lot about Frame.io V4 since it was first announced. But, now that it is out and in the wild and available to all, it’s worth recapping it all again from the top.
Another big MAX announcement has been the final full release of Frame.io V4. Every aspect of Frame.io has been completely redesigned to be faster, more performant, and more intuitive. New features for asset and workflow management, and powerful enhancements to review-and-approval and collaboration experiences reflect the fact that Adobe has built Frame.io to centralize all creatives, collaborators, and stakeholders — along with the assets they’re working on — in one place.
By tagging assets with out-of-the-box or custom metadata like star ratings, assignee, due date, media type, social media platform — or whatever else matters to you — it’s easy to create smart folders called “Collections” that automatically update, organize, and display assets based on how you work. For example, you can create a Collection to facilitate multi-stage review and approvals with clients and stakeholders, manage dailies distribution, or organize creative assets by release date, sorted by social media platform.
A newly architected streaming player guarantees high-quality playback with minimal buffering and interruptions. New frame-accurate hover and high-resolution preview during scrubbing ensures that each pixel is presented with impeccable clarity even as you navigate to your desired clip location.
Frame.io also now accommodates a vast array of file types across photography, design, and documents providing a single platform for creative teams to organize, share, and engage with media. Along with that, a completely revamped comparison viewer and the review and commenting system facilitates more specific feedback with point-and-click annotations, emojis, comment attachments, streamlined hashtags, and smarter @ mentions.
Redesigned iOS and iPad apps make it easier than ever to stay connected to projects on the go. Additionally, Frame.io ensures your content remains secure with robust features that give you full control over access. With TPN Gold Shield, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 certifications, and enterprise-grade security, your creative assets are protected until you're ready to share them with the world.
Previously released in beta, the Frame.io direct connection to Lightroom is now generally available. Enabled through Frame.io’s Camera to Cloud integrations with a range of hardware providers, this connection allows for extremely rapid photo workflows.
Photographers can now automatically transfer all images uploaded via Frame.io’s Camera to Cloud into their Lightroom account. The service also allows for new workflows where photographers can make selects in Frame.io and push their best images into Lightroom for editing. Editors can access the images no matter where they’re located, in real time, and once the images have been retouched or edited they can upload them back into Frame.io for delivery or distribution. There are no tethers required and no need to remove and download media.
New partners for C2C announced at MAX include Canon, Nikon, and Leica, all of whom have announced forthcoming integrations, bringing C2C functionality into their product offerings. The first products from the three to adopt the Frame.io Camera to Cloud Standard are:
Canon C400 and C80
Nikon Z6iii, Z8, and Z9 through NX MobileAir
Leica SL3
With the likes of Fujifilm, Panasonic, and RED already onboard, one would be surprised if more don’t follow fairly soon.
