FilmConvert releases Hazy diffusion plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, & FCP

FilmConvert’s new standalone Hazy plugin is designed to provide all the benefits of working with mist filters but in post.

Hazy is the latest plugin from Film Convert and has been designed to give users all the benefits of shooting with filters in post-production, diffusing strong light and giving footage a softer, dreamier look.

Available for Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, & FCP, it adds a subtle glow to footage that can help reduce the sharpness and contrast that comes with shooting digitally and is designed to make footage reminiscent of film. FilmConvert has created a range of presets based on what it says are the company’s favorite filter styles and strengths, allowing users to choose from a range of different diffusion options.

It works how you would expect. Choosing a smaller strength will result in a bloom effect tightly concentrated around bright light sources, while choosing a larger strength will result in a softer glow across your whole image. Users can control the look of the effect by selecting the specific filter style, intensity, and spread of the diffusion for fast results. Exposure, temperature and the tint of the effect can all be adjusted so it looks natural with the light in the target footage.

FilmConvert also reckons that it will help in the sometimes vexing area of softening and smoothing uneven skin tones. It can help reduce the appearance of redness or blemishes on the face by softening the image slightly and adding a brightening glow. Any shiny areas will be reduced as the highlights are diffused into the surrounding areas, reducing overall contrast.

You can take your look a step further by using custom response controls, which determine the rolloff of your effect. The custom response graph changes to adapt to the chosen filter style, with each point adapting to the shape of the diffusion filter.

Hazy offers color management support, with the effect being tailored to the input gamma of footage or timeline. This can either be based on any specific camera brand’s color science or a standard gamma such as Rec. 709, ACES, DWG, and more.

Cost at release is $89, but you can download a free trial and see what you make of it first. Each activation provides three seats.
