DZOFILM expands full frame cinema prime lens line-up

1 minute read
Now we are 10: the full Vespid primes line-up

Two new focal lengths, 21mm and 40mm, now mean the DZOFILM Vespid prime lens series has 10 lenses ranging from 16mm all the way up to 125mm.

DZOFILM has taken its time in building its complete line-up, launching its original tranche of seven cinema primes for full frame cameras as far back as autumn 2020. The two new wide lenses, 21mm and 40mm T2.1, though, join the ultra-wide 16mm launched late last year and complete what is now a fairly impressive 10 lens range.

The DZOFILM Vespid Prime 21mm (above) is claimed by the company to not be wide enough to cause distortion; certainly less than the 16mm that sits below it in the expanded line-up. The new 40mm lens below, meanwhile, is very much an all-rounder, and sits in what is undoubtedly a sweet spot between the 35mm and 50mm Vespid range.

16-blade irises provide ‘beautiful bokeh’ and a very smooth adjustment between T2.1 and T22. Each of the two new lenses weighs no more than 950g and is available in both EF and PL.

Price for both the 21mm or 40mm is set at $1399, while the ten-lens Vespid kit is listed at $13,199 (though there is currently a discounted launch offer of $11,999 available). UK prices are £1189 and (currently) £11,219 exc VAT respectively. DZOFILM says it will start to ship the new glass by the end of July.
