A look behind the scenes at RedShark News and how we achieve professional-looking video lighting on a budget using Godox gear.
As we've been looking to up the production values on our studio-bound videos, we've teamed up with Godox to enhance our videos with better lighting. In this video, we take you behind the scenes at RedShark News to show how we achieve professional-looking video lighting on an editorial-level budget using Godox gear, demonstrating how to transform a small, simple setup into a dynamic and creative space.

All the details are in the video, but we start with our key light. This is the GODOX ML60 II Bi, a compact bi-color LED light with a color temperature range of 2800 to 6500 K. On its own it's super bright but it's quite a harsh light when pointed, so we add the GODOX AD-S60 Softbox which then diffuses the light and makes it look more professional.
Now that I'm lit all nice, it's about making the background more interesting. Unfortunately we're restricted on what we can mount on the walls, though I am able to utilise the power of RGB to help with this.
It's also got a screw mount on the bottom, which means I can actually attach it wherever I need it to go, I was able to mount it on a desk mount to keep it set up in my room, and it does not get in the way of my partying.
With one half of my colorful backdrop complete, it's on to the other side.
While we could just double up on our LC1000R to light my wall, I went for the LP400R LITEMONS LED light panel for better variety, versatility, and, most importantly, affordability. This super bright and compact RGB panel is mounted on a standard light stand; it can be pulled out whenever it's needed, and tucked away in the corner when it's not.
And the final lights I've got are a pair of TL60 tube lights that offer, you guessed it, RGB and bi-lighting which work as roaming lights. It's always good to have some extra lights to use when you need them, I've found them helpful when filming close-ups and for future video content like unboxings.
Once you look at the differences side by side, you can really see the massive effect some a diffused key light and a coloured background can make on how a video looks.
