Cooke Optics has announced the launch of a new focal length – the 18mm – to join the SP3 mirrorless prime range.
Based on Cooke’s legendary Speed Panchro, the SP3 series of lenses first debuted this time last year. As such, the SP3 18mm focal length has been highly anticipated, not only because it completes the six-lens set, but it also has some features that make it unique.
The close focus from the lens front is 123mm compared to the second widest lens in the set being 139mm. Along with great close focus, the maximum diagonal angle of view for Full Frame as well as Super 35 formats are 99 degrees and 82 degrees respectively. These features will expand the cinematographer’s ability to get the wide and close-up shots that are crucial to creating compelling content.
At only 688 g (24.27 oz), the SP3 18mm will still be light enough to use on most gimbals, drones, and other stabilizers. It has a max. front diameter of 82mm and a has a filter thread size of 77mm. It has the same T-stop range of T2.4, consistent with the other lenses in the matched set.
The SP3s all come with a native E-mount. The user can choose a second mount (free of charge within 90 days of purchase): RF, E, L or M-mount. These mounts are also available to purchase as accessories and can be changed by the user.
The SP3 18mm is now available to order as a single lens priced at £3600 / €4,300 / $4995. Cooke has designed a new sturdy case for the set of 6 lenses which has been improved to maximise space and flexibility for the owner. The 6-lens set is priced at £18850 / €22,600 / $25995. There is also a 3- lens set comprising of the 25mm, 50mm and 100mm, priced at £9250 / €11,100 / $12,800.
