Andy and Lana Wachowski, creators of the Matrix Trilogy and co-directors of Cloud Atlas, are teaming up with Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Staczynski to make a new SciFi series exclusively for Netflix
Netflix have commited to making five original series per year, starting with the critically acclaimed "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey. They have just announced a new project, scheduled for "late 2014", which will be created by the Wachowskis and Staczynski.
The 10 part series will be called "Sense8" and is described by Netflix as "a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted," created and developed by the Wachowskis themselves, who reportedly wrote the first three scripts for the series on spec because they were so excited about the concept.
"Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us. Out of that paradox Sense8 was born,"
"Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time," said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. The Wachowskis added, "We're excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we've wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy."
