Wanting full remote control of your ARRI camera? Look no further as the ARRI Camera Companion App enters beta.
A wholly new, user configurable control interface from ARRI looks to increase efficiency on set by offering remote control of single, or indeed multiple, cameras from the manufacturer.
Implemented using the lightweight CAP protocol, ARRI says it will offer a more agile and direct experience than the WebUI of the company’s existing Web Remote offering.
Nearly all camera functions can be controlled from the app, including recording options, playback, frame rate, ND filters, and white balance. User buttons, and user button groups (SDI-1, SDI-2, and MVF) can be personalised to suit user requirements.
Frame grabs can be triggered at any time and viewed in a dedicated gallery, while they are also saved automatically in the iOS Files app for sharing to other devices or users. Any number of devices can be controlled at the same time, while the app also offers a neat way of navigating between them, for example giving access to Camera A in portrait mode and Camera B when flipped to landscape.
It’s also agreeably extensible. Smaller productions can opt for a direct network where the cameras act as network hosts, while larger or longer running productions have the ability to built a set network where all cameras operating as network clients on a dedicated router. This will allow live data from all of them to be displayed and adjusted at the same time.
The Camera Companion App provides user-configurable remote control of ALEXA 35, ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA Mini, and AMIRA cameras via Apple devices running the latest OSes and Apple silicon in the case of the Macs. If you don't have a camera to hand, you can still explore the app and build your own customized interfaces in a 'mock camera' mode.
