If you are thinking of upgrading the hard disk in your Desktop or Laptop computer to an SSD, this might make things easier for you
Corsair, manufacturers of Memory, SSD's, Power Supplies, Cases and many other bits and pieces for your computer have just released a simple upgrade kit for those of you who would like to replace a hard disk with an SSD. Priced at just $24.99 in the US the kit comes with a SATA to USB cable that supports USB3 but is backward compatible with USB2 and a disk with cloning software for Mac or PC users.
Clone and swap
So, all you need to do is connect your shiny new SSD to a USB port using the cable, run the cloning software to copy your existing hard drive to the SSD and then swap out the hard drive.
Corsair also announced availability of new toolbox software to manage their SSD drives but unfortunately this is Windows only at the moment.
The Corsair SSD Toolbox features:
Drive Information – Displays model, size, firmware, serial number, other key data, and updates SSD firmware
Over-provisioning – Allows allocation of SSD space to enhance endurance and performance
SMART Status – Displays Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology status of drives
Secure Wipe – Securely erases data from drives
Optimize – Allows scheduling of TRIM command to optimize SSD performance
Clone – Copies entire contents of one drive to another (coming in a future update)
The SSD Toolbox software is a free download for owners of Corsair branded SSD drives.
Together these two products should make it easier to install and manage an SSD drive.
